How to Do a Mountain Bike Bunny Hop
from wikiHow - The How to Manual That You Can EditThese are step-by-step instructions on how to hop over that log or stump you might encounter in your path when mountain biking. This is also great for when you want to go off jumps.
Steps
First method:
1.
- Bend your knees and
act like a spring. This will allow you to get much higher.
- Attempt to curl your
toes around your pedals.
- Push down on your
front shocks as hard as you can, then pull up quickly. When pulling up,
slide your hands forward and around your grips like you were revving a
motorcycle. If your toes are curled correctly, you should be able to
bring your legs up and pull the back wheel up.
Second method:
1.
- Pull up on handle bars
such that your front wheel is off of the ground. Keep your weight on your
legs, and keep them bent. Also lean back towards the rear axle.
- When you are ready,
jump, and push your handle bars forward, causing the rear wheel to come
off the ground.
- This method can be
done whether or not you are clipped into your pedals, and you should be
able to bunny hop much higher.
Third method:
1.
- Stand up and point
your toes down apply pressure toward the pedals and handlebars.
- Bend your knees, push
down on all the shocks you have, (front and central), and jump. It may
help to lift up the handlebars slightly first.
Fourth Method:
- Do a wheelie and when the
front wheel is up jump foward with the back wheel and try and land on the
back wheel, dont pull up on the handlebars when attempting this or else
you will land on your butt. this method is used more but it requires a lot
of practice. It usually gives a longer distance!
Tips
- Try to keep the bike steady.
- You need to be going about 5
mph.But no speed is required once the technique is down.
- Try doing this on soft ground
at first.
- It can take a couple of tries
to find the right position, but keep at it.
- Remember, some bikes can be
heavier than others, making them harder to jump on. Downhill bikes are not
made to hop.
- let down the air in the tires
for more grip, about 40psi. but not too much or you will damage your rims.
Warnings
- Wear a helmet--if you fall,
you are likely to hit your head. Wear a full-face helmet if possible.
- This can be really tiring.
- Make sure and have proper
shoes on. Having your foot slide off the pedal can be extremely painful.
- Dont try to jump obstacles
that are too big for you.
- Dont get to frustrated this
takes many tries and is not as easy as it seems.
